Tracey Darvell - Podiatrist in Lewis & Harris

Heb Feet - Podiatrist & Chiropodist for Lewis & Harris

I am a HCPC Registered (CH10613) Podiatrist with over 30 years of NHS experience. I hold a BSc Podiatric Medicine degree and a MSc in Clinical Podiatric Biomechanics. I am a member of the Royal College of Podiatry. I have had four Covid injections.

I studied at the Huddersfield Polytechnic graduating with a Diploma in Podiatric Medicine in 1989 awarded by the Royal College of Podiatry (formerly the Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists).

After graduating I moved to London and worked for the NHS as a general Podiatrist gaining experience in Diabetes, Vascular Assessments, Biomechanics, Rheumatology, Health Promotion, Verrucae and Nail Surgery.

The year after I qualified, Podiatry became a degree course and I completed a conversion course at the University of Westminster to obtain a degree in Podiatric Medicine.

In 1991 I was promoted into the role of Diabetes Specialist Podiatrist for a London NHS Trust. I worked in Acute Hospitals, G.P Surgeries, Nursing Homes, Community Hospitals and patients own homes.

In 2006 I became the Diabetes Clinical Lead responsible for two Acute Hospital and a Community Service in the NHS. At the same time I studied for a Masters (MSc) in Clinical Podiatric Biomechanics at Staffordshire University which was awarded in 2011. My research project was on the effect of forefoot off-loading footwear on the plantar fascia in diabetic patients and led to a change in practice.

I undertook joint Podiatry and Physiotherapy Biomechanics clinics with the Lead Paediatric physiotherapist for complex cases in the NHS and undertaking Biomechanics clinic for Adults and Children in the Community.

In private practice, I have worked for Scholl, private clinics in London and I have worked alongside Chiropractors and Physiotherapists since May 2005.

I am registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) to supply and administer prescription only medicines and qualified in Supplementary and Independent Prescribing.

My Professional Qualifications are listed below:-
– Non-medical Prescribing Certificate 2016
– Certificate in Diabetes 2014
– Certificate in Podiatric Acupuncture 2012
– Diploma in Sports Podiatry 1993-1996

In the summer of 2022 I came to The Isle of Lewis to locum as a Podiatrist for 10 weeks at the Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway with their fantastic Podiatry Team. I fell in love with the place and the people and knew that I had to return. Fast forward a year and my husband secured a job on Lewis to allow us to fulfil our dream of living long term on the Western Isles.

I left the full-time employ of the NHS in 2022 after 33 years but have continued to work privately and locum for the NHS. I will continue to work as a Private Podiatrist across Lewis & Harris.
